History of Psychology: Freud and His Perspectives on Women
By Emily Richards and Sara Khalid
Despite being very controversial, there is no doubt that Sigmund Freud has had a significant influence on the discipline of Psychology. In fact, Freudian theories, incorrect as they may be, form the basis of popular knowledge on Psychology and has been the reason why many are drawn to the field. As a result of this, we have chosen to examine in-depth Sigmund Freud and his theories, specifically on femininity. Freud called feminine sexuality a "mystery" and as is evident from his theories, it remained a mystery to him. For this project, we would like to look at Freud's theories on femininity and perhaps establish what influenced the development of these. We will look at Sigmund Freud's life and background, the influences of the four most important women in his life, his own perspectives on women, his theories on women and his known case studies on women.
